Win could give edge to Costa Rica

June 15th, 2006 | By: Bruno | 9 Comments »

A win against Ecuador, which was already necessary prior to the Germany-Poland game, now may be the only result that keeps Costa Rican hopes alive in the tournament. Even though a tie will not disqualify the Central American team, a win over Ecuador will leave both teams with 3 points and one game to play. But while Ecuador will face the heavy favoured Germans, Costa Rica will play Poland - which has already lost twice in the tournament. So, if the Ticos can somehow manage to defeat the South Americans today they will take a giant step towards making the second round. It will be a difficult game, but it is possible!

There´s no chance of winning if you don´t attack, and Costa Rica never even tried that, it was always the same. The only moment things change were the last 5 minutes against Ecuador, too late…

Even from the start, when the players were chosen to go to Germany there was no intention on being offensive, so we paid for that.

The party is over, indeed

CR did a great job! The team should be proud for qualifying for the WC as it’s a difficuly process. That is quite an achievement. You all will do great next WC. Don’t be disheartened by those rude comments. :)

I am Costa Rican and even thought Costa Rica didn’t do as well as in the previous World Cup, I think that our level of play is getting better.

What do I recommend? Please keep the same “professor” for at least 2 years. Consistency is key in soccer.

Thanks

Alex
