Trying to avoid another lopsided loss

May 30th, 2006 | By: Bruno | No Comments »

Costa Rica will try to avoid another lopsided loss in the match against the Czech Republic today, in the Czech town of Jablonec. Likely fielding the same starting eleven that will take the pitch on June 9 in the World Cup opener, coach Alexandre Guimaraes promises a new attitude in today’s friendly. The Costa Rican press and fans hope the players are able to show more of an effort and at least build more scoring chances than in the last couple of games, against Catalunya and Ukraine.

Guimaraes said that he won’t be making any more tests in the friendly today, and rather use what he knows works with his team. His starting team has also been defined, and should be kept for the opener unless an injury occurs. An interesting development sees the team returning to a three player defence with a sweeper, away from a four-man defence that had been tried in the last few games. Gilberto Martinez, Leonardo Gonzalez and Mauricio Solis are expected to start, having just recovered themselves from injury they had suffered in the last few days.
