Press criticizes performance in friendly

The media in Costa Rica was not impressed with the National team’s performance on Sunday in the 4-0 friendly defeat against Ukraine, in Kiev. “Ridiculous!”, said the Nacion newspaper from San Jose. Diario Extra preferred to classify the friendly as “another failed experiment”, while “Al Dia” simply said the team was “embarrassed”. All across the country, fans and press alike seem to be struck with a sense of pessimism and worry that the team could have a very rough time in Germany. That’s quite a contrast in comparison to last week, when everybody talked about how the team could surprise any other side during a match and would seriously play for a place in the second round of the tournament. Of course, anything can still happen in the World Cup, but right now the naysayers would seem to be more solid arguments than the optimists.
