Guimaraes angry at German media
Neutral fans should hope the team can pull an upset against the Germans on Friday. After all, it would be just the natural cheering for the weaker side, something many neutral fans commonly find themselves doing during the World Cup. If they needed more of a reason, recent comments by German media, saying that Costa Rica is no better than a 2nd Division German side should make it even sweeter for those cheering for the Central Americans, should they manage to pull an upset.
Coach Alexandre Guimaraes wasn’t very impressed with those comments either, and finally burst out this week. “From what I can remember, Germany hasn’t been among the best in Europe for a while either. They are not in a position to say things like that,” said the Costa Rican coach. Guimaraes is still optimistic that his side can gain at least a point from the three-time world champions, and says those who have already awarded three points for Germany for a win in the opener should wait until Friday. His reaction and comments are only fair, in my opinion, and just reflect something that every underdog in the tournament must feel.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Germany would not make it out of the group stage (and for all my soccer reasons, I hope this happens).
My cheers will go to CRC on opening day no matter what the outcome is…

Defenitely, Germany is the favorite in this match not necessarily because of the FIFA ranking (19) against Costa Rica’s (26) but mostly because the better balanced German team. Yet rooting for an underdog that plays a delightful football is what most of us are doing. Go Costa Rica!
