Costa Rica Rival, Still Weak…

It was actually painful to watch Germany in the first half in what turned out to be a solid victory over the US in the end, hardly a revelation to all who hope for a hosts’ awakening. How the mighty have fallen! In all, the Germans are currently a mediocre side, and only the much more mediocre guests made it possible to come out with the seemingly impressive result. Missing 5-6 regular US “stars”, and with nothing to prove the visitors muddled through in their patented “can’t play, and won’t let the other side play either” style which works to a point against ho-hum teams which unfortunately Germany is one of now. Sad! Bruce Arena did his best impression of someone stoically upset through the end, nonplussed with the US goal- a blunder of Kahn worthy of a blooper reel. On second thought it was similar to the Germans first goal. So, if the hosts believe that they met the world’s #5 rated power and blew them away, they should feel great and can delude themselves into hoping that all is well, but if they want to face reality, it is much less pretty.
