Costa Rica loses friendly to Catalunya

May 24th, 2006 | By: Bruno | 8 Comments »

Costa Rica lost 2-0 to Catalunya tonight in Barcelona. Being overplayed for most of the match, the Central Americans suffered the first goal in the 7th minute, with Piti. Costa Rica improved a bit after 20 minutes, but in the second half they suffered another goal, on a penalty kick scored by Roger in the 63rd minute. Coach Alexandre Guimaraes used several substitute players during the game, and Costa Rica found it quite difficult to create scoring opportunities in the match. The team travels back to Germany this Thursday.

It is ok, Costa Rica will do fine againts Germany. remember people, this is just a friendly. I know it’s A little scary, but it will be Ok. I wish that Costa Rica would loose all it’s games before the Real match.. Germany. Then Germany would understimate the TICOS and loose..
Oh it would be great.

This is pathetic. We got slaughtered by a single province of another country!! We’ll be ok against the host Louie???? If catalunya can score 2, Germany can score 11!!!

Costarica is, in my opinion, one of the weakest sides at the WC 2006, so why teams such as poland or germany should be afraid of them? Of course nobody underestimates them, but i dont see Costarica going past the group stages.

Yea sorry to say Costa Rica(bad luck) first game of World Cup vs Germany at Germany. If you dont get 5 goals against it should be considered an achievement. Packing it in would be your best bet.

Common people, the team was not even making an effort. They were lagging. They did not wan to to play. Had no motivation. Beat a little province… Who cares. THE real games start soon!! Plus i want to correct my last coment. It was not a friendly, it was a scrimage. You all will be amazed when june 9th comes around.

Louie, whatever the circumstance, the result does not look good to the outside world.

If however, inside the camp, the game was seen as just a ‘training run’ then no worries, otherwise these losses can cause a little loss of confidence coming into the tournament.

I wish Costa Rica well!

It really cares the frindly games. Just coming from seeing Germany vs. Luxembergo on ESPN, Germany beat 7 to 0.
I’m expecting the worst for Costa Rica. Anything good would be a an earning..
