Another loss for the Ticos

May 30th, 2006 | By: Bruno | 1 Comment »

Costa Rica lost its third straight friendly in preparation for the World Cup. Playing in the Czech town of Jablonec, the Central Americans lost 1-0 to the Czech Republic. The lone goal of the game was scored by Locveck, in the 81st minute. Despite the loss, Costa Rica definitely showed some improvement in comparison to its last couple of games. That was true especially in regards to the defensive aspects of its game. Of course, the attack still leaves a lot to be desired, again failing to create many scoring chances. But at least now fans can hope the team just might pull an upset or two during the World Cup. For now, that has to be enough.

[...] Czech Republic 1 - Costa Rica 0 Vratislav Lokvenc (try saying that name three times quickly) scored in the 82nd minute to power the Czech Republic past the Ticos. Both sides made used their benches extensively and the highlight for Czech fans was seeing Jan Koller make his return from injury. He played 71 minutes. Costa Rica continues to struggle in their World Cup preparations. Will they score any goals in Germany? Maybe when they play Poland…. [...]

Guess there’s not much to read into what the friendlies have produced. Czech republic can pull off a major upset by winning the World Cup. It’s all in their hands. The key will be to focus on keeping clean sheets - scoring goals for them isn’t a problem. Hope they make it and turn the soccer world on it’s head.
